Understanding and Managing Risk
If you deal with risk, managing it well will benefit the outcome of your decisions. Use this course to understand risk inorder to manage it well.
What will you learn through this course?
In this course you will learn about risk from a leadership perspective. This course will disabuse the notion that risk is downside. You will learn that risk is both upside and downside. You will also learn to understand how to contextualize your appetite for risk, what does it take to manage and mitigate it and how building capabilities is the path to it.
Approach to the Course
This course approaches risk as dealing with uncertainty and hence has an element of both gain and loss. It delves into the concept of appetite and how to understand ones appetite. Linking management of risk to capabilities and understanding, it distinguishes between risk and gamble.
This course approaches Risk from the point of view of a leadership resource. It looks at many ways to manage including socializing risk, building capabilities, seeking multiple perspectives and building institutional frameworks for managing and mitigating risk.
The approach is to help you become aware, gain insights and skill practice on these elements referred to as Leadership Orientations. (Orientations are characteristics or traits.)
Moving away from the negative connotation on Risk, the course approaches it as a resource that has many dimensions, including the need to align ones risk appetite to that of the organization and the consequences of not misalignment. It also touches upon the approaches of gain maximization and loss prevention. You will benefit from the insights distilled from the scholars in the area which have been woven into the course structure.
In short, this course will add a new dimension to your approach and management of Risk
