Approach to the Course

Innovation and design thinking inherently needs you to break away from the past and the present. It requires you to work with ambiguity, uncertainty and complexity and think future. All this requires the exercise of leadership to challenge the status quo and willingness to break out. Thus, this course starts with exploring leadership itself and the ask it has of you.

Your ability to think design and lead innovation will depend on certain personal resources you possess or need to develop and your ability to apply them through the journey. We refer to these resources as Leadership Orientations. Orientations are characteristics or traits.

This course will help you gain awareness and reflect on your leadership orientations that specifically impact your ability to design and innovate. You will have an opportunity to gain self-awareness and insights on those leadership orientations. You will expose yourself to the leadership abilities you need to build to think through design and lead innovation. Leadership abilities are the combined application of the leadership orientations learnt. Practising these leadership orientations and leadership abilities will help you build skills to be effective in this area.

This theme will fundamentally draw from your ability to think, manage a multiplicity of perspectives, learn beyond what is known to you and sense opportunities to harness value.
